Hotel Acc-bcn-002 ****
This is one of the most accessible hotels that AccessibleCruiseTours uses.
This hotel is located 8 blocks from Plaça Catalunya the central
square of Barcelona, which is about 15 minutes by wheelchair. Alternatively
there are several accessible buses or a wheelchair friendly Metro station
close by. It’s in a quieter area than Las Ramblas which means that
it is much easier to sleep in this hotel than in the noisier central locations.
This is one of the most accessible hotels that AccessibleCruiseTours
uses and it has five spacious rooms which are equipped with wheel-in-showers
and grab bars for helping with transfers. The minimum door width in the
building is 74cm and is the bathroom door (See plan).
There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor, one in the reception
area and one in the bar. There are also two ramps to enter the building
at the main hotel entrance and the other at the entrance to the bar. The
only problem with the ramps is that they are made of marble and therefore
can be slippery at times.
All in all this is a great hotel for wheelchair users
and rooms can frequently be reserved at a reasonable price. Although it
is not on Las Ramblas it is still quite central and most attractions are
within wheeling distance.

With great views of the port, this hotel has an ideal location for beach and city lovers alike.
With great views of the port, this hotel has an ideal
location for beach and city lovers alike. It is situated between Via Laietana
and Las Ramblas near to the statue commemorating Christopher Columbus.
This is an enchanting four star hotel which offers great
access combined with a family style run establishment.
This hotel has a level access leading into a quiet reception and foyer
area. The breakfast area is also on the ground floor and is completely
accessible. There is lift access to the first floor where the adapted
room is located along with an adapted disabled toilet for the clients
of the hotel. The room itself is quite large with a double bed and all
the usual fittings.
The bathroom is spacious (3.5M x 1.76M – See diagram) with a wheelchair
accessible shower and plenty of leg space underneath the sink. Unfortunately,
the toilet is only accessible from the right hand side and the shower
seat from the left. AccessibleCruiseTours do have a shower wheelchair
for hire for those that may find this a problem.
We really like this hotel as it is one of the most accessible
hotels in that we have found in Barcelona. It has a sense of class and
style with access which has been integrated into the ambience of the hotel
in a non imposing way. This is an ideal place to stay for honeymooners,
people that want to splash out a little and those visiting Barcelona before
or after a cruise.

This hotel has recently opened in 2006 and is situated very close to
La Plaza de Catedral and only a short distance from both the port and
Las
Ramblas.
This hotel has recently opened in 2006 and is situated
very close to La Plaza de Catedral and only a short distance from both
the port and Las Ramblas. It is also located between two very popular
tourist areas known as the Gothic quarter and the Born. The Born has many
wheelchair accessible bars and restaurants in comparison to other areas
of Barcelona and is also where the Picasso Museum may be found.
The hotel itself is very modern with a minimalist style
to it, comprising of subtle lighting, decoration and music. The entrance
of the hotel has a revolving doorway with a button to slow down the doors
for wheelchair users. For wheelchairs that are slightly larger there is
also a conventional door next to it. The foyer of the hotel is very impressive
with high ceilings, a small library and a quiet seating area. There are
two lifts up to the bedrooms and also down to the restaurant
and bar. They also climb to the very top level of the building where there
is a large roof terrace and swimming pool with fantastic
views of Parc Citudella and the church of Santa Maria del Mar The door
width of the lifts is 79cm and they have a depth of 140cm.
The accessible bedrooms stay in tone with the style of the hotel.
The bathrooms are well prepared with grab bars for the WC and a gap of
67cm under the sink for wheelchair users. They also have level access
showers with grab rails at a height of 80cm, but unfortunately there isn’t
a wall mounted seat. The hotel do have a plastic chair that can be used
in the shower or alternatively AccessibleCruiseTours do have a shower
wheelchair for hire for those that may find this a problem.
This is a great hotel which has much to offer disabled
people, even though the swimming pool isn’t specifically adapted,
it is accessible which is very rare in Barcelona. It’s a very central
hotel with a great location and access to the main tourist centre of the
city.
